Hand Skills Programme

Specific graded hand activities can be incorporated into the child’s day to develop their hand and manipulation. We also strongly recommend specific areas within nursery are established with activities to target the development fine motor skills for all the children.

The aim is to develop the child’s hand skills towards independence with functional tasks, target their pencil grip and dexterity when handling tools/utensils.

Pre writing programmes -

Programmes will focus on the pre requisite skills of pencil grasp, copying, drawing and physical aspects such as posture. Fun activities can be introduced into many aspects of nursery too ensure all children are ready for formal letter formation at the appropriate age.

The aim is to develop the necessary foundation skills to develop good letter formation.

Our therapists at Tree Tops are passionate about working with educational staff to grow their knowledge and skills. School staff will be trained and supported when learning to work with children affected by sensory and motor difficulties to integrate the programmes designed for them.

Many children with learning difficulties will have sensory processing difficulties, causing them to struggle with every day experiences like movement and sound. We will assess and design individual programmes and work with teachers on how to implement these into children's routines.
