Job Opportunity – Occupational Therapist
Job purpose:
- To assess and treat children with a range of Developmental Disorders focusing on Sensory processing of the child, within Tree Tops clinic and the school environment. To deliver monthly OT service to mainstream SLA schools
Key Responsibilities and duties
- Assessment of child’s fine /gross motor development, visual perceptual and handwriting skills using standardised tests
- Analysis of child’s sensory processing in relation to their difficulties
- Take lead role in treatment sessions with support of OT assistant
- Supervise children within treatment sessions
- Monitor the child’s progress and re-grade treatment activities according to their need
- Plan and organise individual treatment sessions within clinic, child’s home or school
- Implement school based motor skills and other therapeutic programmes
- Conduct school visits for assessment or treatment purpose
- Compile professional OT reports for assessment, review and discharge
- Document weekly child’s progress
- Attend multi-disciplinary or school meetings as required
- Liaise with parents, health professionals and education staff
- Manage own clinical caseload
- Ensure children are achieving good progress with effective clinical outcomes
- Deliver basic training to parents and education for SLA schools
- Assist during Tree Tops training days
- Attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills
- Ensure high standard of health and safety with regard to child, equipment and person
Self-development:
- Further develop sensory integration expertise and knowledge with all clients groups
- Work towards SI accreditation
- With clinical lead consider research options to support and monitor success of motor skills programmes in schools
- Take a more active teaching role in training events
- Introduce new graded programmes and activities for children in clinic and schools
Person specifications
A dynamic self-motivated individual with a passion for affecting positive changes in a child’s life using clinically proven SI based interventions. You must be able to work independently within different environments and as part of a team. You will possess excellent clinical reasoning skills to produce effective outcomes, with a desire to develop your expertise in Sensory Integration.
Starting salary:
Dependent on experience and competency level
Band 5/6
Hours: 22 per week
Three days per week –Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (but will need flexibility)
With view to increasing to full time
Annual leave: 5.6 Weeks pro rata
