Summer shutdown fun activities
Summer shutdown fun activities – have a go! They will help all six areas on the flyer plus much more.
Fine motor skills
- Send a postcard to a friend or family member
- Write or type a poem
- Draw a picture of a day out you have had and enjoyed
- Design and draw your own bedroom
- Draw your favourite animal
- Try making your own weaving kit
Gross motor skills
- Go to the park
- Try to ride your bike
- Draw a line on the path and try to walk along the straight line
- Try skipping or hopping
- Have a game of tug of war with your family
- Go for a walk in the woods or along the beach
Ocular motor skills (vision)
- Play a memory card game
- Move sweets from one tray to another (you can also do this for fine motor skills by moving the sweets back and forward with tweezers)
- Do a jigsaw puzzle
- Organise your bedroom or book shelf or even mum or dad’s grocery cupboard (make sure you get permission first though)
Ball skills
- Throw a ball at a target five times then increase this as you gain confidence
- Throw a ball or balloon in the air and catch it several times
- Bounce a ball against a wall
- With your friend, sibling or parent, try to throw the ball and catch
Social skills
- Ask your friend what they have been up to this week
- Talk to a friend
- Play a board game with a friend
- Go to a play park with your family
Hand-eye coordination
- Bake in the kitchen
- Make some animals or objects with playdoh
- Have a game of cards
- Build something with Lego
- Play a game of simple Simon
- Help tidy the garden
- Water the garden
